JEAN GRIVOT
Like most Burgundian producers, Domaine Jean Grivot is built on tradition, and in this case, foresight. It was Gaston Grivot in 1919 that sold some lesser parcels and purchased a large parcel of Clos Vougeot.
Gaston was also one of the first oenologists to graduate from Dijon University, followed by his son Jean a few years later. Together they succeeded in making the Grivot name internationally recognised. Like his father, Jean also acquired vineyards, but this time it was 12.5 hectares of the prestigious Richebourg that the family added to their already growing holdings.
In 1987, Jean was succeeded by his son Etienne. Etienne worked in California and around France, but together with his family, is at the helm today. His philosophy is to do everything possible to make top-level and pleasurable wines, capable of long-term aging, that evoke Burgundy’s rich terroir.
